Surgical Blades

SURGICAL BLADES: Surgical Blades/Knives/Scalpels. A scalpel is a bladed surgical instrument used to make cuts into the body. This is a very sharp instrument and comes in various sizes for different types of cuts and surgeries. Most blades are made of either carbon or stainless (medical grade) steel.
Surgical blades come in a variety of shapes, each designed for specific types of procedures. For example, a curved blade is often used for making incisions in tissue, while a straight blade is typically used for cutting through bone.
The #10 blade is a commonly used blade for surgical applications. It is used for making large incisions through skin and subcutaneous tissues. It is similar to the #20 blade, which is somewhat larger.
The knife handle is reusable and is sterilized after each case. The blade we use on the knife is disposable. We open blades before each surgery depending on what size the surgeon needs.
Another name for surgical blade is scalpel. A scalpel, lancet, or bistoury is a small and extremely sharp bladed instrument used for surgery, anatomical dissection, podiatry and various handicrafts.
