Chlorhexidine Gauze Dressing is used as a primary wound treatment for burns, skin grafts, ulcers and other injuries. Chlorhexidine is an antimicrobial agent which acts against bacteria. This dressing is coated with chlorhexidine 0.5% w/w with white soft paraffin.
Burns and Trauma: Chlorhexidine Gauze Dressing can be applied to burns and traumatic injuries to promote healing and reduce the risk of infection.
Surgical Sites: It is commonly used to cover and protect surgical sites, minimizing the risk of post-operative infections.
The principle of chlorhexidine: Chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum biocide effective against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. Chlorhexidine inactivates microorganisms with a broader spectrum than other antimicrobials (e.g. antibiotics) and has a quicker kill rate than other antimicrobials (e.g. povidone-iodine).
Despite the preference for using alternative dressings and debridement methods, gauze still plays a role in advanced wound care. Rather than having direct contact with the wound, gauze is preferred as a secondary dressing. It is also very effective at lowering the risk of infection when it is used to scrub wounds.
The function of a gauze bandage is commonplace. It is a material that is used to repair and protect damaged parts. It is a medical necessity for surgical procedures. A simple gauze bandage is made of cotton or gauze.
Chlorhexidine gauze dressing: It is not to be used on more than 10% of the body area. Avoid contact with eyes, the middle ear, meninges and brain. It is incompatible with soaps, other anionic materials & potassium iodide. Use of Chlorhexidine Gauze Dressing with oxidising wounds cleaning agents should be avoided.
Chlorhexidine Gauze Dressing acts as a soothing agent. The antibiotic / antiseptic in it helps in the healing process.
