Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM): A method in which electronic instruments are used to record the heartbeat of the fetus and contractions of the mother’s uterus. Fetus: The stage of prenatal development that starts 8 weeks after fertilization and lasts until the end of pregnancy.
The principle of fetal monitor: External fetal monitoring, which is most frequently used, involves the placement of two transducers placed on the maternal abdominal wall: one overlying the fetal heart to record the FHR and one over the uterine fundus to record contractions.
